WV Family Foundation
Major Accomplishments
1992 - 2010

  • Defeated SB-600, which would have included "sexual orientation" into West Virginia's Human Rights Act giving homosexuals civil rights status for their behavior. This bill passed had momentum leaving the Senate with a floor vote of 32-0, with two senators absent and not voting. Senator Jeffrey Kessler, of Marshall county, co-sponsored and promoted this bill. • One of the leading organizations to secure passage of the WV Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in April, 2000, under Governor Underwood's administration.

  • We exposed pro-homosexual government publications and materials, developed during the Clinton Administration, and communicated their existence to other pro-family organizations throughout the United States. Click here  for Register-Herald article on expose'.

  • Squashed the "pro-homosexual" WV Civil Rights Team Project on February 20, 2003. This pilot program, sponsored by the WV Attorneys General office, promoted acceptance of homosexual behavior and provided hate crimes training to high school students in twenty-two West Virginia public schools.

Kevin McCoy, our president, debated Paul Sheridan, senior assistant attorney general, Civil Rights Division
, on the Team Project, on the Fox TV's O'Reilly Factor. "In 2005, McCoy received the "Salt & Light Award from Dr. D. James Kennedy, of Center for Reclaiming America", for his work on the Team Project.

Gay, Lesbian, Straight Educational Network (GLSEN) took issue with our efforts in their letter to WV Attorneys General Darrell McGraw,Jr., Governor Bob Wise and state Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Stewart
    .

  • In January, 2006, WVFF stopped the collaboration between the WV Human Rights Commission and homosexual activists who sought civil rights status for their immoral and decadent lifestyle.

Other conservative battles WVFF has worked on since 1992

  • Led conservative effort to pass a WV Constitutional Marriage Amendment to define marriage as only between "one man and one woman" in 2006, 2007, and 2008. In 2009, our marriage amendment legislation was introduced in both the WV Senate and House of Delegates. A "Motion to discharge" was offered to get our legislation out of the House committee. The committee chair refused to allow a vote on it. The Motion was defeated along party lines on the House floor vote. We will introduce this legislation again in the 2010 legislative session as well.

  • Worked with both conservative democrat and republican legislators to defeat attempts for the inclusion of “sexual orientation” in the WV Hate Crime Statute §61-6-21, denying homosexuals special rights, plus employment and housing, which would be used as justification to teach the acceptance of homosexuality in public schools from K to grade12 and could one day be used to silence pastors who preach against homosexuality from their pulpit. Massachusetts has added these laws and acceptance of homosexuality is being taught in all their public schools. They are "brain washing" grade schoolers into accepting the perverse homosexuality behavior.

  • Introduced legislation to regulate and limit sexually oriented businesses  in our state. The passage of this legislation will severely limit the hours of operation and activities of sexually oriented businesses in our state.

  • Provided “In God We Trust” legislation which would authorize our national motto to be placed in all WV public buildings.
